Obituary of Squirt Hill
Please share a memory of Squirt to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Squirt was the first parrot I raised from a baby. She was truly a blessing to me. She was so high energy and always looking to get into something. She was the smallest bird in my flock but definitely had the biggest personality. She was Mommy’s girl and was quite jealous if anyone else was on me. Squirt could say her name and Night night. She didn’t need to say much, her eyes and actions said it all. She greeted me every morning with a sweet whistle and in the evening said Night night until I went upstairs. She gave awesome kisses too. She loved going to the bay on weekends and would run into her travel house. She would clearly make fun of the other birds because they stayed home. She loved her car rides and bridges. Her favorite was Chesapeake City bridge and the “home” bridge. Her eyes smiled.
She loved dipping her nectar and getting what I called “nectar nose”. She loved food and always wanted a little of whatever you had. She had her own plate but preferred eating off mine. She jumped up and down til she got some. Freeze pops were a favorite and a lil ice cream. She loved her corn on the cob and crabs too and had her last crab New Year’s Day this year.
Squirt was a chronic egg layer. She got implants and injections frequently to help but she persisted. She loved the holidays and usually celebrated with, of course, eggs.
Squirt prolapsed April Fools Day 2020. The only vet open at 10:30pm (during Covid) was Windcrest Animal Hospital in Delaware so off we went. She had emergency surgery and 4 hours later prolapsed again thru the stitches. She did this 3x total. Drs were quite impressed and back to surgery she went. I was able to go down everyday and take her food. They’d bring her to window and I had to stay outside. Luckily she did great. She went to Florida with us February 2021. We drove 19 1/2 hours and she held on even with a mass in her abdomen. Six weeks after we got home her mass disappeared. Prayers answered.
May 25,2023 I had her left back toe removed as it was broken and facing front. Again, she did fantastic.
Sadly her tumor came back Spring 2024 but she continued to be good and saw Dr Julian every 3 months for more meds. Squirt had such trust in me and me in her. She was a fighter and fought bravely. She tried so hard to stay. Her last 2 weeks I never left her side. She let me hand feed her and keep her clean. I will cherish our time together forever. The silliest, sweetest, and most charming Rainbow Lorikeet ever will always have a piece of my heart.
Squirt, you are SO missed.
Night night little girl. My Angel Forever
