Today we said goodbye to our feisty girl Roslin. She had just turned 15 in March, and while she was only 8 pounds, her presence filled the house in a big way. We often called her “little Roz” because of her size, but there was nothing small about her personality. She was also our “pretty girl”—because she truly was a very pretty lady.
Roslin was a really, really good cat, she knew the rules and exactly when to break them. She stayed off the tables… until no one was around. I’d find her tiny pawprints in the dust on the furniture by the TV, like a little calling card. She didn’t totally destroy the furniture—just enough to leave her mark. And she was a hilariously messy eater, scattering cat food like she’d hosted a tiny buffet.
She wasn’t a cuddler, she always disappeared when guests were over—most people didn’t even realize we had a cat. But to us, she was unforgettable. She spent years trying to be Tucker’s best friend (he…didnt) while totally rejecting poor Juno, who just wanted to love her. And in true Roslin fashion, she’d needle Tucker—stealing his spot or poking at him just to get a rise. He never once fought back.
She started joining me on midnight bathroom trips when I was pregnant with Gwen and kept that quiet companionship going for years. She played like a kitten well into her senior years and always sought out warmth—sunbeams, heating vents, freshly used laptops. And somehow, she took up more than her fair share of bed space every single night.
While she wasn’t big on snuggling, she loved scratches, nose rubs, and pets. She’d come find us for affection—stay just long enough to get her fill, then wander off like the little ghost-cat she so often was.
We loved her dearly, and we will miss her fiercely—her sass, her independence, her beauty, and her quiet, stubborn love. Our home is quieter without her, but her spirit will always be part of it.
Roslin, our little Roz, our pretty girl—I hope you find Tucker. And I hope you tell him just how much we miss him, how much I miss him.
“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” – A.A. Milne
