Our dog, Max, recently passed away after a short illness.  We adopted Max after I retired in December 2010 as a playmate for our dog, Toby.  (Max had been rescued from a kill shelter in Ohio and was living at a foster home in Michigan before our adoption.)  Toby and Max were playmates for almost eleven years until Toby’s passing in October 2021.  Max and Toby especially liked the large dog park near our home in Wisconsin, which we visited often before moving to Arizona.  Max protected Toby when we were attacked by a Great Dane in Arizona, suffering a puncture wound.  Max was the friendliest dog I ever met – he would often lay next to someone on the sofa - and I could not have had a better companion in retirement. Our grandchildren would always look for Max when visiting (after we moved to Pennsylvania) and he will be missed by our entire family.
