Archie (Archibald) McDonnell was born near Claremorris, County Mayo, Ireland on or before April 2012. His exact birthplace and date is unknown as his first owner left him tied to a pole on the side of the road in Claremorris. He was fostered and then adopted by Peter McDonnell in April 2013 who remained his loving owner until the very end. After he was adopted Archie spent his time in Ireland tearing around the garden, running through the fields, chasing the waves on Ross Beach, and attempting to carry home the biggest stick he could find. In November 2014 Peter and Archie made the journey from Ireland to America. Over the next 11 years Archie visited and lived in many parts of America including New Jersey, Maine, Vermont, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. In 2022 Marit joined Peter and Archie’s family and Archie gained another person who adored him. Archie loved going for walks and hikes, having new adventures, basking in the sunshine, and just being near Pete and Marit. He had so much love to give and would look for pats on the head from every person he was near. Archie passed away peacefully in his home with his owners by his side on May 24 2025. We miss him dearly, from his little barks in the morning telling us it’s time to get up, we miss him greeting us every time we walk through the door, all the snuggles he would give us on the couch and the smell of his fur. But we are also overjoyed for him that now he is onto his next adventure and he is able to run again without pain, chase countless waves on the beach with getting tired, and sleep with the warmth of the sun on his belly the whole day.
