Jack
Our sweet boy Jack passed on June 18th. He took a piece of us with him that day. We first met Jack at an adoption event with Almost Home Dog Rescue. We had originally contacted them about a different dog that was available. Lucky for us her foster didn’t think we would be a good fit. Instead one of the dogs that was suggested was Jack. When talking it over with each other my Dad in the other room said Jack! He’s the one!
We scheduled a meet with our shy sweet boy and he instantly chose us. He was so sweet and gentle and playful. We were a perfect fit: a new pack of three. When Jack came home quickly we realized that he had some pretty severe separation anxiety. We tried all types of training possible with mild success. Thankfully, he had a wonderful Mommom and Poppop who babysat him daily.
We took him everywhere with us that was possible. The Three Musketeers. A lot of people thought his anxiety was a deal breaker for them, and for some it might have been. But for us we accepted him for who he was, because he was perfect in every way. Even his anxiety was it’s own positive because he had been abandoned before (those folks were nuts!), he was so smart, he got that people don’t always come back.
Jack had been by our sides through all of life’s big moments, good and bad. From being the scene stealer in our engagement pictures, to expanding our pack and becoming the best big brother to his new little human brother, James. From the moment we brought James home he knew he was the newest member and needed to be looked out for.
Jack was my Mom’s hero one day when she had passed out and alerted my husband to something being wrong. He was also my first hug after my mother passed, where I felt like I could let myself feel the pain of her loss. He was my companion when I visited my Dad daily when he was on hospice, quietly sitting by my feet as we both worried.
It wasn’t long after that Jack got sick himself and after a long battle it was time to say goodbye to our best friend. When they brought him into the room he wagged for the first time since his health declined. We think it was his way of telling us that he appreciated that we always would come back and never abandon him.
We couldn’t be more thankful for our gentleman and scholar, Jack. When we told everyone that Jack passed, a common response was that he was lucky to have us, but it was us that was so lucky to have an amazing companion for the last eight years.
Jack, Thank you for all the love and joy you brought us. Wait for us at the rainbow bridge, keep Mommom and Poppop company. Until we meet again sweet boy.
Love,
Mommy, Daddy and James
