Vesper
She wasn’t good at catching mice
One mouse ran through her legs, twice;
But as Grace trained her from a kitten
She excelled in being held;
We were beyond smitten.
Veronica rescued her in a barn;
And then once when she swallowed yarn
The vet saved her from being lost;
Even Dad didn’t complain at the cost.
Brother James nightly played the wild cat
Vesper was too dignified for that;
Every night she’d find her place
To fall asleep in bed with Grace.
The softest & whitest fur
Easy to love, easy to purr;
Her life was too short, but undefeated;
So she wasn’t cheated
We were.
