"Farewell my boy…..

He came, he saw, he loved, and he conquered. Caius Marius Hilliard passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 28th surrounded by the warmth of his family. He was 15 years old.

Born in October of 2006, I got Cai as a birthday gift my senior year of college from a friend who didn’t realize that I was allergic to cats. He was presented to me with a big red bow around his neck, a bow bigger than his head, and he was the cutest thing I’d ever seen. For 2 weeks he woo’d me with his charm, personality and charisma, and for 2 weeks I sneezed, sniffled and snotted; but I was in love.

Cai didn’t like everyone, but almost everyone LOVED Cai. He had an unmatched personality. Demanding at times, but when he loved you, he loved you hard.

A connoisseur of quality things, Cai expected nothing less than the best. He loved his T.R.E.A.T’s (spelled cause if you say the word around him, he would lose his mind), his laser pointer, empty boxes to jump in, and swatting at ankles as he hid beneath a bed or sofa.

Later in life, Caius enjoyed spending time on his outdoor couch, enjoying the natural view from the balcony. Always a protector, he followed members of the house into the bathroom, and waited with them to ensure no harm came their way. During the pandemic, he sat diligently with his moms as they worked, often jumping onto a laptop to help with a project or two. He loved being rubbed and doted on by his family, and will be deeply missed.

Caius was a beautiful, strong spirited boy. His purr was audible throughout the whole house, especially when laying on his moms and boys. The house is too still now without him: his headbutts and his 9-5 job of "making biscuits" will be missed in ways we can’t imagine. We're glad to know that he's happily chasing a never-ending laser pointer somewhere, snacking on T.R.E.A.T’s, and no longer in pain."
