Obituary of Nick Russo

Born: December 30, 2009, K9 Nick started with the Upper Darby Police Department in January of 2013.

K9 Nick was purchased from Gold Coast K9 in California, where he completed several different advanced schools one being Advanced Swat & Patrol Deployment Tactics.

K9 Nick worked alongside Sergeant Steve Russo for 8 years before retiring in April of 2021 where he enjoyed his time with Sergeant Russo’s family.

As a multipurpose canine, he has tracked and apprehended violent felons, located evidence in crimes, sniffed out illegal drugs, and was the first K9 to be assisted and operated with the Township and County SWAT teams. K9 Nick deployed with several local, state, federal agencies throughout his years of service.

Over the years we have conducted hundreds of demonstrations educating children and the Community in the purpose of our job. As a team we helped our K9 program in promoting a positive relationship between the police and public. 

After years of loyal service and dedicated to the Community of Upper Darby Township K9 Nick was laid to rest at my home surrounded by my family on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 8:30. 

K9 Nick was given a Full Honors Send Off surrounded by several Officers and K9’s from around the County. K9 Nick will be missed by all.
