Obituary of Obi Nave

Please share a memory of Obi to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Born: July 1, 2004.

Passed: July 3, 2024.

Words to describe Obi: Affectionate, friendly, cooperative (with her feline housemates), and playful to the last.

The “Story”: In 2004, our oldest daughter, Valerie (age 20 at the time and a staunch animal lover then and now), rescued Obi from a very bad environment. Obi was just (7) weeks old at the time and was being severely mistreated. As my wife and I were moving our youngest daughter into college (freshman year in Pittsburgh), Valerie called my wife (on an old flip phone) to ask permission to keep her “tiny kitten rescue”. I could overhear the conversation, so I intervened and instructed Valerie to “get rid of the cat” before our return to Chester County, PA since we already had a growing collection of rescued cats. Valerie moved out of our house shortly after Obi’s arrival, but Obi stayed with us for nearly (20) more years. Obi’s initial name was “Squeakers” because her tiny kitten meow was so “very weak, short, and high pitched”. In her later years, I would often whisper to Obi, as she nestled on my chest for a good scratching and a nap, that “It is a good thing that Valerie didn’t listen very well when she was 20!”  We will miss Obi terribly.
