Obituary of Mimi Gelinas

Please share a memory of Mimi to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mimi was born in the summer of 2006. Before the age of 2, she had already been returned to the shelter twice. Around the same time, my 20 year old self decided to go visit the shelter "just to look". A few minutes later, we walked out together and were inseparable ever since.

Lovingly nicknamed Fatsy, as she hovered around 22lbs most of her life. The name stuck even after the kidney disease shrunk her down to 5.5lbs over her last couple of years.

She was known for hijinks like breaking windows to try and catch a bird...and succeeding. Followed by proudly bringing it back inside still alive before going to snag a second one. She loved thunderstorms, especially licking the fresh rain dripping off chairs on the deck. A favorite pastime of hers was stealing any and all of her jealous yellow lab brother's beds and couch spaces.

She was wildly independent but still fervently protective of her few chosen humans. She was very fond of screaming into the ether in a way that sounded like she had smoked for 40 years. Whenever, wherever, often for no reason. Yet in all of the 16 years we spent together, there was never a single moment that she stopped loudly and aggressively purring.
