Barney was my constant

companion for almost 16

years. I adopted him from

the SPCA when he was

about 8 months old.

He had a hard start in life.

He began with a hunter

who didn’t want him

because he wouldn’t hunt.

He didn’t like loud noises.

And the horrible people

who bought him at 2

months old left him outside

in a dog kennel 24/7. They

didn’t name him, gave him

no toys, he was never

cuddled, petted, or loved.

They returned him to the

hunter who promptly

dropped him at the pound.

Fortunately, there was a very nice lady

there at the same time who fostered.

She took him home til he could find a

forever home. I found him on Petfinder

soon after I had lost my Beagle,

Guillaume.

Barney had terrible separation anxiety,

which was completely understandable,

knowing the trauma he had been

through for the 6 months after he was

separated from his mother. So he went

to work with me or stayed with my

parents.

He eventually learned to trust me and

knew I would never leave him.

Unfortunately, the time came when he

had to leave me. He didn’t want to go

but his body was failing. His mind was

still clear. He knew when to go out,

where the food and water dish was,

but was feeling so bad he couldn’t eat.

And he loved to eat. Mealtimes were

his favorite part of the day.

It’s only been one day but I miss him

so much. It’s going to be a long time

before I stop looking for my best bud.

I love you more than words could ever

express Barneyman. You were the best

boy. Run with my other angels Darwin,

Guillaume, Poco and Pablo. Run again

with no pain, in the fields full of sun
