Cookie Berger

07/18/2010 - 11/15/2024

Our hearts are heavy as we remember our Cookie boy.

Cookie showed up on our front porch the morning of July 18, 2013. He stayed there for three days. At that time, we coaxed him with food to our back porch. We searched diligently for his family, as he was so friendly, but to no avail. With his thick white and gray coat and the July heat, we finally brought him inside August 22.

We woke up the morning of August 22 at 5am to discover he had been in a fight. There was no sign of Cookie, but there was white fur all over the deck. As we stood there calling his name in tears, Cookie came triumphantly prancing from the neighbor’s backyard where he was hiding under a bush. He jumped on our deck, onto the rail and right into our arms. There was not a single mark on him from the fight. It was at that moment that we brought him inside our home; he was already in our hearts. Being much larger than our cat Mindi, we were concerned he would harm her. He never did; they were best friends instantly. Cookie became a member of our family from the start.

Cookie’s bond with us was very strong. Whenever his mom would leave the house or even go to another room, Cookie would find her or wait at the front window for her return. Most mornings he would lay in her arms and purr away. Whenever his dad was in Cookie’s recliner, Cookie would jump up on the chair’s arm and hang out. As soon as his dad got up, Cookie moved to the seat and promptly took a nap. Each night he slept on the bottom of our bed at his special place on a soft blanket. Cookie was velvety soft and we loved to stroke and pet his belly fur.

Cookie was our pride and joy. The Vet estimated he was 3 years old when he came to us.  In seemingly good health, he passed at 14.5 years old. He jumped on the table, walked past his mom, went into a seizure and was gone. We will always remember his gentle ways, his softness, his deep purrs and the heart-shaped fur on his coat. We love him so much.

Cookie Bear you were awesome in every way. Thanks for choosing us when you needed a home. We will miss our little white lion who gave us so much love. Our family gave you a furever home full of love, but mostly you gave us that unconditional love only you could provide.

Survived by his human family, Cookie will be in our hearts always. When we look at his favorite places in a sunbeam or look up to see a rainbow, we will think of him.

Sleep in Heavenly peace, Cookie Bear.
